Brazil

Research years: 2023, 2026

Brazil is one of the most dynamic and diverse countries in South America, with a population of over 215 million people and a rapidly growing middle class. Its cultural richness that is shaped by European, African, and Indigenous influences, contributes to a unique social and business environment. As one of the largest economies in the world and a leading member of the BRICS nations, Brazil plays a crucial role in global markets.

The country is rich in natural resources such as oil, natural gas, iron ore, and other minerals. This combination makes Brazil a key player in the energy and mining sectors. Additionally, Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of soybeans, coffee, beef, and sugar, reinforcing its importance in global agribusiness. At the same time, it is investing in renewable energy, clean technologies, and sustainable agriculture, positioning itself as a future leader in green innovation.

Brazil’s urban centers such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasília serve as major economic hubs with vibrant start-up ecosystems and strong industries in manufacturing, engineering, fintech, and software development. The country has a well-educated workforce and a growing technology sector, offering opportunities for investment in high-skilled industries and research & development.

The government has been implementing economic and structural reforms aimed at reducing bureaucracy and improving the business climate. Brazil’s strategic location in Latin America, combined with its role in MERCOSUR and active partnerships with the EU, China, and the United States, make it an attractive hub for regional and international trade.

Brazil and the Netherlands share a strong and long-standing trade relationship. The Netherlands is one of the largest foreign investors in Brazil, and both countries are members of the WTO and G20. Several agreements support bilateral trade, including the broader Mercosur-European Union Framework Agreement, which aims to reduce trade barriers and promote investment.

In recent years, the collaboration between Brazil and the Netherlands has expanded into key areas such as sustainable agriculture, circular economy, and water management. A major upcoming milestone is COP30, which will take place in November 2025 in Belém. This global climate summit offers Brazil a platform to demonstrate its leadership in environmental policy and connect with green investors and international stakeholders.
